I have heard that HaunTopic might be producing a Haunt Podcast. I was reading Brian Foreman's Facebook page, and he was thinking about producing a podcast called "HaunTopic," which was named from his website. I will certainly give him my support. Good luck Brian.

My One-armed Grabber

I made a little bit of head way today. (No pun intended) As you can see in the picture above that I started on getting my one-armed grabber going. The CHB group that I went to built most of it. All I needed to do was buy a foam head and add some wiring. I had noticed while trying to get the one-armed grabber going good, was that the metal stoppers were not staying still. I decided to attach some wire to them and keep them in the right place. It seems to be doing the trick. I might want to work on it a bit more, but it doesn't look too bad right now. Next, I just need to make the hand in front and then give him some clothes. I must say, things are going ok. Below is a short video on my One-armed grabber.

Ok, if you remember from a previous blog, I noticed that the bolts were welded on wrong. As you can see from the picture above the eye bolts are facing the front. Because of this, I can't put the the arm bolt thru it without it pulling up the arm bolt and snapping it off. If this bolt (its hole) was facing more towards the sides, then I wouldn't have any problems. I talked to some of the members of the Chicago Haunt Builders club and most agree that this is wrong and that the eye bolt would have to be removed and then re welded. Well, finding someone with a welder would be too much a pain. So, I talked to some mechanics at work and they suggested just cutting off the end of the eye bolt and adding a piece of metal to it instead. I thought that was a better idea so today I went a head and just cut off the round part of the eye bolts. I also started work on the two metal pieces that will just slip over the bolt. Then I will add a set screw to the two metal pieces and I am hoping that should do it. I know I also have to drill the hole to connect the arm bolts. I think it should be ok. Will post pictures when I am done fixing it.

Well it is official, I found out that my bolts are not welded right so I am going to have to fix it myself. That is ok. This weekend I went out and bought some tools to fix it. My plan is to cut the eye bolts off and replace them with a piece of metal, which will be connected to the aluminum arms. But that is ok. When life gives you lemons, you BUY TOOLS to make it into beer. LOL

Damn Eye Bolts!

Sometimes life is not fair and this would be an example of one of those times. I am not 100% sure if there is anything I can do to fix it, but it doesn't look good. I noticed that when I brought my motors back after being welded, that the bolts were not welded right. I will have to look into it, but I might have to cut the bolts off and start over. I guess we will see, but it don't look good. Been talking to Mike but our last converstion he was still thinking that the eye bolts would still work. I guess I will have to talk to him more.

Season of Shadows Last Post

I have noticed a lot of blogs are talking about Season of Shadows Last Blog. It was really sad to hear all what is going on in his life and I certainly couldn't comment because I wouldn't do it justice. That is why you need to check out the last blog and see for yourself. I had a friend from Halloweenforum that had a tumor who didn't pull thru. (Mr. Unpleasant) When my friend told me about his tumor I always thought he was going to pull thru. I even told him everything would be fine. It wasn't until his friend told me later on that he passed did I realize. I still from time to time visit Mr. Unpleasants's page and tell him I miss him. It is hearing John's problems from Season of Shadows that reminds me of Mr. Unpleasnt and makes me sad knowing he will have to suffer and of course having to give up his love for Halloween. I don't think it is fair.

Jan CHB Club prop Build

Had an awesome time at the Chicago Haunt Builders prop building today. I think the prop we built today was called the Grave Grabber (Shown above) and I forgot how many were built. The above prop above was used as a Pedro that we used to build the others. (Video is below) When I say We, I mean them. Because once the assembly line kicked in to start mass producing these babies, I didn't get a chance to pick up a screw driver. I was so overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to help that I just didn't have it in me to stick my big nose in helping. I felt kind of weird not helping. All I did was give them money for supplies and the motor and I didn't have to lift a hand to get it done. Which is kind of good but kind of bad as well. I should have pushed myself and got into assembly line. Oh, and if you remember I needed help welding my bolts on my RC Zombie Crawlers motors. Well, Toby (haunt31.com) and Mike help me put them on. I just tested it out and it works great. Was worried the heat damaged one of the motors. But I checked them both out and all is well. (Video of it is below)

The day started at 9am this morning. I drove from Montgomery, Il to the north side of Chicago and right after a major snow storm. I heard one town got 9.1 inches of snow. Myself, I had to shovel 4 times. But this morning the roads were pretty good. Didn't take me long to get to Chicago. When I got there I really wasn't planning on making their Grave Grabber, but I couldn't help myself. Bought one of their reindeer motors and some parts and before I knew it they had it assembled it faster than I could blink. I really didn't get a chance to help and I really wish I had gotten a little aggressive and pushed myself to help. Oh, well maybe next time. Anyway, in the middle of the build the home owner Mark (other Mark) reminded me about welding my RC Zombie Dude. So I asked Toby of Haunt31 to help me weld it. Within 20 mins both Toby and Mike had it welded. And if you are planning on building an RC Crawling Dude and plan on welding the bolts on the motors, please wet down some towels and cool it town after each weld. VEry Important!

I was able to get the base done for the RC Crawling dude before I go tomorrow and have it welded at our Haunt Prop build. I was getting scared there for a while, but it is done. I should have pictures of what everyone is making tomorrow.

Cold as Ice!

It has been a long week. I did receive my aluminum square tubing on Monday. I have been working in the garage and damn is it cold. Have a small space heater, but it really doesn't help to keep me warm. I have most of the base done as of today. In the image above you can see the piece of aluminum that I got(I got two of these) in the mail on Monday.(The longer piece of metal) Just to the right you will see the two pieces of aluminum that I made to hold the motors down. In the picture only one motor is shown in its aluminum base. But I did get both motors seated in the aluminum bases that I built. All I need to do now is bolt these two bases with motors into the main wood base.(Shown below) I found out early this week that my earlier base was the wrong size so I had to redo it. I think my first wood base was 1x8 instead of 1x6. But that is fixed now.

Glue Face

Since I didn't get my aluminium square tubing, I decided to work on my ground breaker for a bit. My goal is to build a few more and in the middle of all these ground breakers will be RC Crawling Zombie. I am hoping people will think the crawling zombie just lays there and not expecting it to move. They will be surprised when it does.

Tomorrow I am suppose to get the aluminum square tubing. Then I can get the motors mounted on the main board.

Also bought a space heat this weekend. The temps have been dipping pretty low so I decided to buy one. It is ok, but nothing to write home to mom about. But I think it will get me thru the season. Really need to get something better though.

I think everyone and their grandma has seen this guy, but just in case you have not please check out his channel. It is stillbeaststudio and his how-to build Halloween props is called Youtube Wednesday. I had never heard about his channel until I came across a thread on the forums. Glad I did, because his show is awesome! He shows you in great detail how to build Halloween props easily and cheap. And that is how it is done. So I take my hat off to stillbeststudios. My he live long and prosper.

Where is my Aluminum?

I have been trying to find the right size aluminum from the different hardware stores around here with no luck. Finally I had to order some of the 1 1/4" square tubing (aluminum) from an on-line store. I am hoping to get it before Saturday. I need to at least get the aluminum base done that seats the motors before Jan 21st or I am going to miss my opportunity to weld the joints. I can't take the presure. Please hurry! I am not sure when I will be able to have this opportunity again.

This is a image of the aluminum sq tubing that I need. If you look at the pic above you will see the two aluminum sq right below the head. Once I get it, I just need to modify it to fit the motors and then the presure will be off. Please hurry Mr. UPS dude. I NEED TO GET THIS DONE QUICK!

Lastly, I wanted to show you a close-up pic I got from Mike on his RC Crawling Dude. I really have to give kudos to Mike for helping me. If it wasn't for him this would take a lot longer. He found me the motors and the transmitter, which was about 5 bucks on ebay. It was used but works great. Thanks Mike Divine. The first and third photos I have are from Mike Divine from his RC Zombie prop. I had some questions of his tilt mechanism and this is the picture that he sent me the other day. I already have the tilt mechanism, which is the black plastic tilt mechanism on the left hand side. It allows the head to look up/down and then from side to side. I don't have the servos yet, but they will be ordered soon.

Just Keep Working!

I got two weeks to get the main base done for the RC Crawling Dude. The motors have to be in the aluminium base/wood base by Jan 21st or I won't be able to weld the bolt to the motor. Haunt31's Toby is going to bring his welder on that day to weld the two bolts to the motors. Toby tells me they have learned alot with the other crawling dudes that they have made in the past. They have had the motors stop working and the bolt seized because the heat from the welder killed them. They have had to use watered down towels as a heat sync to stop the heat from kiling the motors. I am really hoping I don't have that problem. One of the motors I got is really hard to find and the next one might not be as cheap. Alright, going to find some aluminium stock.

Also was just told that I won a copy of Zombie Terrors from Asylum Press. I won it from Zombies and Toys. I just sent him my address and I will posting what I think of the comic.

Adams

Did you also notice that we are now below 300 days until Halloween. Wasn't expecting it to come up that quickly.

Also want to share a few videos I saw on youtube. All are from Lee Hardcastle. He does the whole claymation and cartoons.

The first video is a funny remake of the movie "The Thing." I love that movie and I really though the funny remake was funny. Check it out.

The 2nd video is another claymation video he made. It is your basic zombie attack video.

Lastly is a a short claymation/cartoon called the Haunted Hospital. I really like this one. I really like the imagery.

Halloween Prop used to break the law.

Did you already put your Halloween stuff up for 2011? Well, hold that thought. A man in Washington used his plastic skeleton as a 2nd passenger in a HOV lane. Which is a line for shared rides if you didn't know. The man got busted going over the speeding limit and then busted for not actually having a 2nd rider in the car and being in the HOV lane. He could of told the officer that his fake friend had a tummy ache and needed to goto the hospital. That is how I would have played it.

So the moral of this story is two wrongs don't make a right, (because he probably wouldn't have got caught with the skeleton in his car if he didn't speed.) or next time get an animated skeleton who is holding donuts. That way it looks more real to the cop and he will be more looking at the donuts than the passenger. So remember don't put away your halloween props just yet. There might be something else you can use them for like this young man did.

Welding Fun!

One of the things that is going to be a pain in the butt is the welding part for the RC Crawling Dude. A - I don't have a welder and B - I don't have anyone I know that has one. Until now... The Chicago Haunt Builders Club is going to have a prop get together on the 21st of this month. Their plan as I hear it is to build a Brewster One-arm grabber. Even though I would like to join them, I am planning on going to have someone weld the two joints for me. The picture above is the two bolts that I bought that will be welded to both motors. They have told me that I will have to build the main wood-base and aluminum base for the motors. So that means I am going to have to get going before the 21st of Jan.

Zombie Crawler Test

The last of my Christmas gifts arrived today. I got two 7 amp batteries for my RC Crawling Dude all the way from Japan. They are also the final part that I need to test out the electronics. Except maybe for the head. But all I need is two more servos and then I can test out that. But to give you an idea of what I got done so far, or should I say what I can do now, here is a quick video of me testing out the two motors with the RC Controller. In this test I have the two motors hooked up to the receiver. I am controlling the two motors with my RC remote that I bought. It is cool as hell. The two motors that I am testing are the ones that will control him moving. So without further adieu, here is the test video.

Oh, when I say the first motor, that is the motor that is further away from the camera. The 2nd motor is the closest. The video is a little dark but it isn't too bad.

While most people will be out tonight drinking and yelling out Happy New, I will be home paper mache'ing. Yep! I took apart my older ground breaker, the one with the back bone and am making another ground breaker with it. Decided to start with newspaper then I will layer the top part with tissue paper. It might work. Trying something different. I might even try to layer the damn thing with bacon. Everything goes well with bacon. And ground breakers are no exception to the rule.

My RC crawling dude is going a little bit slow these days. Most of the parts, well the important parts are still on their merry way to my house. From Hong Kong of all places. When they finally get here I will have to break out the Geiger counter. With all the radiation worries they have in Japan, you never can be too careful. I don't want to turn into Gamera, the flying turtle.

Christmas Present for Halloween

Must say I got some really nice gifts for Christmas. I got two movies, "Let me In" (shown here) and Serenity. (Firefly movie) Was also bought the other motor for my crawling dude and two 7amp batteries which are still in Hong Kong at the present. Takes a while to get them, but have been told they should be here around Jan. I also have a Y-splitter coming as well. Then I should be able to test out the motors.

Krampus is Coming to Town

Had a friend send me this video about Krampus which is basically celebrated by the Australians(and a few others) during the first week of December. People will dress up as demons to scare kids etc. Have heard that traditionally they will scratch or pick people up by the ears during this Christmas celebration. The video that I got shows a parade of them going down the street, scaring little children. What I have read, the Krampus accoupanies Santa during the Christmas ride. Bad children are placed in sacks by the Krampus and taken back to his lair and eaten for Christmas dinner. A little more information can be seen here.

I think I found a video the subject shown below. I hope I got the right one. Can't see it from here. But the costumes they have are really cool. Check it out. I really would like to take a trip out there and see this first hand.

Last Train to Transworld

Today I bought 2 train tickets to St. Louis for Transworld in March. Got the business class ones. I would prefer to be up front in business class than in the back. It is a mess back there. It is like being in the cattle car. In the business class the seats are better and it is a lot better for a 4 hour trip. And the bathrooms are right there. Not to mention the snack bar is also right there. It is just nicer being up in biz class for a 4 hr trip from Chicago to St. Louis. Better than driving I must say.

For myself, I bought a few Traxxas-1 for my RC Crawling guy. Should be the last of the parts that I will need to get him done. That is if the girlfriend comes thru today and orders the rest of my stuff for Christmas. Crossing fingers.

Looks like you have to buy 50 of them unitl next spring, but I sill want them. And if that isn't enough then maybe a chocolate hearse is better. Those I think you can buy one without having to sink in 50 bucks. I will have to check out my sock this Christmas and hope that it is there.

Receiver Setup

Mike Divine got a hold of me again about the setup for the receiver. Here is the picture that he sent. I was expecting the wire setup to be alot more complicated than this. As you see, there is only four connections to the receiver. I have not gotten all the parts yet, but I am really excited to get this thing working. I think the RC Crawling Zombie is going to be cool.

Helping Dream Reapers Christmas Haunt

A while back I was talking about the robbery of Dream Reapers and how I wanted to help. I had sent an email to them to ask if I could send them something. I did finally get an email back from them, but it was after I bought the shirt. I just feel bad about all the kids that helped in this haunt that maybe had trouble getting paid. I hope this hasn't left a negative impression on them about Halloween or haunts in general. It bothers me that it could.

There is alot of members from the Chicago haunt Builders club that actually are or have went to Dream Reapers Christmas Haunt to support them. I couldn't make it out there, that is why I bought a shirt to support them. (Seen below) I did find some pictures that were supplied by Jim Sorefleet. (thanks Jim) Again, if you live in the Chicago area, please check out their Christmas haunt and help support them. It would really be bad if this pro haunt went under just because they got robbed.

Let Me In!

My girlfriend told me the other day that since my present (Latex) was canceled that she was going to get me something else. She told me that I could pick a Menards or Home Depot card, or just something else. I told her I wanted the movie “Let me In.” I saw the movie while I was off during my surgery and I really enjoyed it. Probably others might not like it but I really enjoyed it. I really suggest checking it out if you have not already, unless you have small kids. Because the vampire in this movie is not your twilight vampire movie. Not your movie for kids.

Myself, I am the type that watches a movie for 3 minutes and if it doesn’t peak my interest, then it gets turned off. I just can’t focus enough to watch it if it doesn’t spark some type of emotion or something. This movie makes it for me.

The Receiver

Today I got the receiver for the RC Crawling dude. Things are coming along faster than I thought. I don't have too much to buy to get it done.

There was bad news for my Christmas present. That would be the latex my girlfriend ordered. I guess it is too cold to send to Chicago so the order got canceled. Damn it!!! But the girlfriend did come back and order me the other components for the RC Crawling dude. Thanks Honey!

Stupid Zombies

I Might be behind the times but I found this cool game called Stupid Zombies. Probably been out for a while but I didn't notice it until the girlfriend's little girl got it on her Kindle Fire. Started playing it and then decided to download it on my phone. My girlfriend is stuck on the game and has taken her daughter's Kindle fire every chances she gets to play the game. So if you got a chance, download it today.

Stupid Zombie reminds me of angry birds to a point. But in this game you have all these zombies and your job is to shoot them down. Hard to explain, you will just have to check it out yourself.

Fright Theatre latex

Girlfriend finally told me that one of my gifts for Christmas was a gallon of latex from Fright Theatre. She just ordered it today. I hope it doesn't get too cold that they can't ship. Was going to use the latex for my Toadstool props. Would really be bad if I have to wait until it gets warm again to get the latex. I guess we will see.

Today I also ordered the receiver for my crawling zombie dude. Really would like to see if the transmitter works.

Crawler Transmitter

Today I got the transmitter for my crawling zombie. It is a Vex Transmitter and it takes 8 AA batteries. Holly cow! Might as well hook the damn thing to my car battery. Geez. Good thing I won't have to use it much.

Since the Transmitter didn't come with a reciever, I am planning on getting one soon. Mike Divine has been helping me thru all this process by telling me which products are the best. I really have to give him kudos on this. I don't mess with RC cars at all so this really helps. Thanks Mike for all your help. I couldn't do this without you.

Parts for crawling dude

I got the left side motor for the RC Crawling Zombie. Getting tired of calling him crawling dude so maybe I will call him, Itillu. (Get it? I Kill you.) I know, I probably should just call him Fred. I also bought the transmitter and it should be here shortly. Then of course the fun begins.

Also today I got my signed autograph from Melissa. That is so cool! She even took the time to send me a written note along with the autograph. I love when people treat you on a one on one basis and she certainly did that. Thanks Melissa.

Dream Reapers Robbed!

I heard thru the Chicago Haunt Builders club and HauntedIllinois.com that Deam Reapers was robbed and might have to close their doors. Dream Reapers is a pro haunt located in Melrose Park, Il. They are planning on presenting a Christmas haunt so if you are in the area please check it out. Really sad that people can resort to stealing. It says on their site that this might force them to close since most of the money was for paying their people and renting the place for next year. I just hope everything comes out for them. I asked them if I could send them something to help out. Just can't do too much because of Christmas.

Dream Reapers Haunted House was started in 2002 and resides in Melrose Park. Dream Reapers came on strong in the Chicago Haunt scene by its use of high detail and intense scares. Dream Reapers was one of the first Haunted Houses in Chicagoland to use smells to add realism to its scenes. Over the past 12 years Dream Reapers has remained one of the top Haunted Houses in Illinois with multiple first place standings on HauntedIllinois.com, featured on WGN TV, ranked in the top 13 Haunted Houses in the United States on HauntWorld.com, front page of the Chicago Tribune, and featured on the Travel Channels program America Haunts.

This past October 30th at the end of the 2011 season between the hours of 12:30 am and 3:30 am Dream Reapers Haunted House was broken into. An unidentified individual or individuals forced open the emergency exit door, made their way to the show office and removed the deposit safe from the accounting room. The safe ultimately contained the final deposit for the season. In that deposit would be the funds that would pay for the rent for the following year and the Dream Reaper staff payment for the season. While the Dream Reapers management is truly thankful that nobody was injured and the show was able to finish its Halloween season, it is a saddening thought that this might have been Dream Reapers final show.

Zombie Crawling Guy

Ok, time to move forward and not look back. Sorry for the last post but was getting lots of nasty messages and needed to say something. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to move forward with making the RC Walking Zombie guy. I really like the concept and it seems like a lot of friends are making or have made one, so I wanted to get on the crawling zombie band-wagon. I would like to thank Bourno and I especially want to thank Mike Devine form the Chicago Haunt Builders club for helping me out with how he made the head section. I am still in the gathering of parts stage but I think I know where I want to go with this. Mike designed his crawling zombie with a movable head, which I think is great. So I am taking his idea and running with it. Believe it or not I have already picked out the head for my crawling zombie and my goal is to buy it soon. I am buying it from Death Studios. Have bought from them before, they have some really nice masks. I figure a cheap mask won’t do for this prop.

My idea is to make a few ground breakers and then in the middle have the RC Crawling guy. When someone comes by, then it is when he attacks. I think that is going to be cool. The pictures you see here is from one of the motors of the crawling zombie guy. There is a piece that needs to be welded on so I am going to have to take those motors to a buddy or what not and have the piece welded.

I have been getting a lot of Frustrated Hauntcast Listeners complaining to me so I wanted to address those comments.

That is a shame that most haunters think of me in such a negative light because I complained on my blog about the price of Hauntcast. It is a shame that people are so negative towards me just for voicing my opinion. It seems like you are blaming me for taking Hauntcast singularly handed down when we both know it took more than just my simple blog to do so. As I listened to the last Hauntcast podcast they said that 95% of their listeners refused to pay to keep Hauntcast alive. The only difference is I was honest and said I wouldn’t pay instead of the silence that was received from the rest of the 95%. Would like to know if you are yelling at them as well? Of course that would make you the rest of the 5% who paid for the services and probably 1% that think I am the cause of Hauntcast’s demise. To which I say I am not.

For the comment I got about not paying 50 dollars to Transworld, please make sure you read the whole blog. I have paid for two tickets to Transworld in March. There is only so much that I can allocate to Halloween stuff. I have so much for buying props, paint, conventions, and etc. When I have everyone holding their hands out expecting payment that is when I have to draw the line and decide what gets my cash. Probably such as yourself. Maybe I decided to not pay 12 bucks a year like the other 95% of the haunters who choose not to pay, but I did sink a lot of money into their sponsors. That should be good enough. If not, oh well. Best I can do. I can’t afford to give everyone money who asks for it. Can you?

For the other haunters who despise me and think that I am the sole reason Hauntcast closed shop, let me give you a tip. Maybe instead of taking out all your frustrations out on me because of a complaint about hauntcast charging, how about taking all that energy you spend on yelling at me, take up a collection for Chris and Hauntcast so you can save the day. Hell, if you don’t have the balls to do it, I can. But even if I collected a butt load of cash, that doesn’t mean they will come back. So my suggestion to you is, stop sending all your complaints to me and send them to Hauntcast, instead. I was not the one that closed up shop. They did! Also if you don’t like me as a person, haunter, or whatever, you can choose to not read my blog. That is your choice and I won’t complain on your blog if you did. Just like it is everyone's choice to pick and choose who they are going to give their money too. And I refuse to listen to people who think they have the ability to choose where my money goes for me. Not going to happen.

Christmas present fit for a haunter

Since I have been collecting Walking Dead autographs, I thought I would contact Meslissa Cowan who is the zombie bike girl on the first season of The Walking Dead. My main plan was to get her autograph when I went to Comic Con Chicago in July. But a few days before I went, I had to have my gal bladder taken out. During the surgery I got pneumonia. So when I got to Comic Con I was zonking out every 15 mins. I just couldn't take walking. Of course I was told I couldn't go by the Dr. or should I say it was not "A Good idea." Well I went anyway and got a few of the Walking Dead stars autographs. But I didn't get Melissa's. So I just contacted her about getting her autograph and paid the 20 bucks. It is my Christmas present to myself. (Merry Christmas self!) You know most people do it. Buy their own presents that is. You know you do it, don't point....

Now my focus is to get some of the lead stars of The Walking Dead. I have Riggs, the little boy but would like to get Andrew Lincoln and Laurie Holden. Laurie Holden is a must because she also stared in one of my favorites "Silent Hill."

Transworld Hauntshow Controversy

About a week ago I got a friend request from Scary Visions on Facebook. Was catching his posts today when I saw his post on Transworld charging 50 bucks. He actually lists the letter Jen Braverman posted about why Transworld was charging 50 dollars to enter Transworld. My understanding is that he actually talked to over the phone and also quoted her in his blog. He is also looking for comments so I would suggest going over to his blog and checking it out.(Click here) He does at the end give his two cents but it isn’t as blunt as someone who is more forward on the subject, such as me. Most haunters might be thinking of something more positive by saying “The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain.” I might say, “The rain really sucks here! Where is my umbrella?” I think for myself, when you have been supporting Transworld or anything for that matter, it becomes more personal. I think that is why when I talk about Transworld it is with a sharp tongue. It is because I care about what happens and it hurts when something you love changes so drastically. That goes for everything. For example, I am not sure what I would do if http://www.hauntforum.com/ was forced to charge or pull the plug. I have known this site for a while now and it too has become part of my heart. And if they were forced to charge or unplug for any reason, you would see me right on here complaining as I normally do. (Just FYI: there are no plans for hauntforum to do this. This is just an example. Please don’t go complaining to Zombie-F. This is only a test. Consider Zombie-F a friend and wouldn’t want him complaining that others thought his site was going down. Remember this is only an EXAMPLE.)

My Opinion is this of Transworld. I have been going to Transworld since 2005. I have been to Chicago, Vegas, and even St. Louis. All of them were great and I wouldn’t change a thing, except for them to go back to Chicago since I am closer. (LOL) To my understanding Transworld moved from Chicago because of expenses and etc. It stands to reason that they should do the same in St.Louis as well. But yet they decide to charge 50 dollars to make up for the lost in St. Louis. Why? Why not go somewhere that the rates and such are cheaper so that you don’t have to force your customers to eat up the cost. It is like crap going down a hill. It always seems to land on the customer. I would be willing to goto Kentucky or Texas, any where really. There has to be somewhere that can help ease the price to the customer.

As I said, I have been going to Transworld since 2005 when the sponsors use to provide lots of extras like tote bags, mini-luggage carriers in Vegas, and such for the customers. Not any more. I feel like they are turning their backs to their customers. Maybe most haunters don’t spend the amount as the pros do, but I bet we pay to turn on the lights at Transworld and maybe a little bit more.

Maybe Transworld doesn’t want the likes of me at their show.(Not convention apparently) I guess I should be checking out Hauntcon, Midwest Haunters show, or a few others I have seen. They seem to be geared more towards haunters anyway. But even thought Transworld charging has forced me to consider other haunt conventions (I know Transworld isn’t a convention), it still has not changed my love for the grand scheme of Transworld Hauntshow.

Halloween Radio Sign: Buy or Make?

In 2010 I bought a RF Radio Transmitter to broadcast Halloween music and to announce certain features of my haunt to the passer-byers. I had made a sign to tell these passer-byers to tune into that certain radio channel. To be honest, I really didn’t like the way the sign come out. I made it at the last second so it looked so last second too. This year I want to re-vamp that sign. So I have two options. I could make the sign myself and and take a little more time to make it look better. Or I could buy one. I had Jim from the Chicago Haunt Builders club tell me that he bought one from the local sign company. (Pic shown above) So I have been pricing signs. I am just starting to get responses to my request. I asked for a 3ft x 3ft sign with my haunt name and turn into 101.3FM. Halloween Radio. Which has my haunt name below. So far the quotes have been in the 80s range. Not sure I want to pay that much. I might have to ask for a smaller sign or something. Really don’t know my options as of yet. But I certainly have time.

I just happened to be checking out this one girl’s vlog about going to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, PA. Never heard of this place, so I had to check it out. Come to find out it is a Museum which displays the worlds deformities and disease and what it does to the body. I was quite interested in the fact that they have all these freaky stuff displayed. Time to take a road trip if you ask me.

Chicago Haunt Builders Party

Got back from the Chicago Haunt Builders Party last night. Awesome, simply awesome! It is so nice to be able to go and meet up with a bunch of people who have the same interests as you. Anyway, I got to talk to alot of people about compressors and which way I should go when I finally decide to buy one. Also talked about making the round crypt but not alot of help in that direction. One haunter is going to make his crypt with a dome the same as I. I will have to watch him to see if he finds out how to do it before me. Certainly will copy him if he does. Oh, and I wanted to thank our host. The food and conversation was awesome.

If you notice the first picture, you will notice the Zombie Crawler. Someone brought him to the party and had to show him off. His head actually moves back and forth and I wish I had one. I do have videos of some of the people that were there and I have a few videos of the Zombie Crawler. One of the videos is PG-13. So be prepared for some language that may not be appropriate for young viewers.

Trying to get my thoughts together for next years haunt. It is nice not to feel pain any more from the gal bladder surgery. Really starting to feel the need to start building again. And I like it!

I have so many ideas. The girlfriend would really like to disown me, but I hope she is going to just put up with my Halloween fetish. She would really like to have the Doctors put the Gal Bladder back in to slow me down, because at this point I have been rattling non-stop about building props. I see one, so I want to build it. Have to focus or my haunt is going to look like Wal-mart after the Christmas shoppers ransack the isles.

One of the props I have to complete by hook or by crook is my big spider. I got the butt done and I just started on the front. It is too cold to really paint or do anything else until it starts to warm up, so I am going to have to put that to the side. But my goal is to have a spider scene within the graveyard. So there will be a few spider and such along with the big spider.

That comes up to my next prop that I would love to get done. Will start during Christmas on this one. I got the idea from Rahnefan on Hauntfourm. He made toadstools. Which I think would be good to throw a few of these guys along with the spiders. Even have a spider on one of the toadstools. I really like Rahnefan idea of the mutated toadstools, but I really like niblique71 rendition of the toadstools. (picture above) He used latex on his. That means I need to buy some latex and fast before it gets too cold. They won’t ship latex if it gets too cold. So that is going to have to be done soon. I guess I could always build up the toadstools now and latex later but would really like to have these done soon. I might put my own twist in the mix and use a cauldron for one of the toadstools. Was thinking I could use that for one of the heads. Maybe I can make it animated. Tried to contact niblique71 on Hauntforum but have not heard back as of yet. Would love to ask a few question as I bet a few other people as well.

Next is the round crypt. I might have to go hexagonal on the crypt since round is way too expensive to do. If not, then I will have to go with the basic square crypt. I have built one before so it shouldn’t be too bad this time. I actually contacted Scary Factory about if they could sell me one. Honestly I don’t think I could afford them. The one building that kind of looks like what I want to build cost 15, 000. Holly cow, that isn’t going to happen. I would go with the basic square crypt before I did that. Unless I win the lotto, then sure 15k it is. But I have not heard anything from them yet. But it would be interesting to find out how much.

Transworld 50 dollar War 2012

Before, I mentioned about Transworld’s Hauntshow charging everyone 50 dollars to get in. This they say is because of rising costs. Which is making everyone wonder why Transworld decided to leave Chicago for St. Louis just to save money in the first place. But in Chicago the price was zero to get in. In St. Louis, now they are changing 50 bucks to get in. How are they saving money? But their 50 dollar charge is being met with a lot of negative comments from Transworld goers and even vendors. Most have already stated that they will not be going this year because of the new charge. They don’t understand why going from paying nothing to 50 bucks is acceptable. Vendors are also chiming in, stating that the 50 charge will stop many people from coming to transworld who would normally buy from them. Will this stop Transworld and cause them to reverse the charges? We can hope. But until then I guess I will be paying my 50 dollars.

I was reading Kelly's Blog today. (A Good friend) If I am not mistaken, I met her back when I was on blogcrypt. (That was a while ago) Her blog has won the most versatile blogger award. Anyway, she was talking about her passions with the moon and how it shapes her world. Very interesting and I suggest checking it out. Round Crypt looks bad

I have been researching making the round crypt and it looks like it is going to cost way more than I am willing to spend. I am going into the Make and Take this weekend, maybe they will have some ideas but as of yet none that will keep the cost down. Still have not gave up on the round crypt but it looks like I might have to switch gears and go square. Oh, well. Maybe I can win the lotto tonight and have enough to make one. You never know.

Make and Take CHB

I just signed up for the Make and Take at CHB. The meeting is set for this Sat at around 11am in Arlington Heights. My goal is to grill them for as much info on pneumatics. It is my weakest area and one that I need to get better at. This will also give me a chance to meet everyone and of course learn. I will post pictures afterwards. As I said, Halloween isn't over until we say it is.

Big Spider Front

Halloween over you say? It isn't over until we say it is over. Spider Rider who created the bestest biggest spider was helping me build my spider from fiber glass. Well the back is done. Back might need another rebar in it to hold it up, but is pretty much done. Thought since I have all these plans then I better get all the other stuff done. This is the front of the spider. Decided to do it out of foam. As you can see I have alot to get done. Been chipping away with a blade. Might buy a foam cutter to get the rest done. My problem is I am not sure how I want to foam the spider head. I figure it will come out as I am cutting. Big fun!

It looks like Hauntcast has signed off for the last time today. Ironically on 11-11-11 of all days. Probably something not everyone was expecting, but it doesn’t look like they were making the money they were looking for, so they signed off. I certainly liked the show, but if you can’t pay the bills then you can’t pay the bills. Plus, you never know, they might come back some other time. You never know. Maybe this will scare all the fans and they will send them their dollar. I know it was a dollar, because they mentioned this many times during the last show. For me, all I can say is STAY SCARY!

Haunt Think Tank

Let me first say I just love the Chicago Haunt Builders Club. There is a different dimension as compared to a Halloween forum or something comparable. I know the haunt forum gurus are getting all ruffed when I say this, but remember I am not putting the forums down. I love the forums and am there every day. I have been so since I started building Halloween props. So don't kill me for liking something other than the forums. There is so many advantages of belonging to a local haunt club.

With the builders club you can ask questions like the forums and such, but since they are local you can get direct answers to question right on the spot. And since most of them do the same thing that I do, they can answer many questions regarding compressors and such, and then the following week actually show you how to do it at their house or yours. Since it is more personal, most list phone numbers so you can call to ask questions or get help. So support your local haunt club. LOL

This week I was asking question about building my round crypt. The think tank went into action. Some of it funny but mostly serious. They also had a group buy that I got into. They are buying speed control mufflers. I bought two and I bought one of their shirts. (Seen above) The speed controllers are for a compressor that I yet to buy, but thought it a good idea to get them since that is the direction I am going. Anyway, I think I got my question answered.

Time to Revamp your Coffins

Yep, it is time to revamp your coffins if you have not done so already. Since the Russians are free to design their own coffins these days, it makes me wonder if I need to revamp my own coffin. Mine is just your basic everyday run of the mill coffin, not one that looks like a fish or whiskey bottle. But I am really liking the whiskey bottle. Could you imagine your favorite pop-up coming out of this whiskey bottle coffin. It could happen. I could have my ghoulire prop pop-out of a thing of nachos, with cheese. I am really liking thinking out of the box. I am scared just thinking about it now.

Is Halloween Going to Last?

I found an article on lobservateur.com that says they did a survey on what people will be doing on Halloween. ¼ of the people questioned said they will be doing nothing on Halloween. ¾ of the people questioned said that they will be doing some sort of Halloween function. Which is great! Was getting scared there for a second. But honestly, do we really believe that ¼ of these people will be doing nothing for Halloween? I doubt it. Let’s analyze shall we. Just bet that the people who put “Nothing” really had something to do with Halloween weather they want to admit it or not. I bet ¼ of the ¼ of people who said they were doing nothing were egging people’s houses on Halloween. That is of course a function of Halloween. So we have to count this folks as a Halloween function. And then there is the ½ of the ¼ of the people that said they were doing nothing that were actually trying to jump the hot women that were going to the Halloween parties. This my friends again is a Halloween function. When Lobservateur is doing a survey on Halloween, they really need focus and get into finding out the reason why people list “Nothing.” We can’t just think Halloween is going down the tubes just because someone marks “Nothing” on their questionnaire about Halloween. Come on, what do you take us as? Then there is the remainning ¼ of the ¼ of people that listed “Nothing” on the survey who just got lost on the internet looking for the hot Halloween chicks and probably wondered why they were doing this survey anyway. They checked “Nothing.” So there you have it. 100% of the people that did this survey actually had something to do with Halloween. Yes, Halloween is safe. Now I don't have to worry and can go back to building props. Good thing that is over.

Monster High Dolls

I got a Christmas list from the 7 year old the other day. One of those gifts was Monster High Dolls. I hope this was not my doing. My girlfriend thinks they are cute and they are, I think. It is probably my influence that is giving her these ideas. Probably going to get yelled at by her grandmother. But what can you do. Check them out, they are pretty cool. I went to Target yesterday and pick her up the 5 dolls that were on sale. I hope she doesn’t read my blog or I am dead. (Cheyenne if you are reading this, STOP! LOL)

Bitch ate my Halloween Candy

I was listening on the radio this morning about Jimmy Kimmel's Kids Halloween candy trick. I guess parents told their kids that they ate all their Halloween candy and then filmed it. Does it make me a bad person that I enjoy things like this. If I knew about this before, I certainly would have done it to my girlfriend's kids. The 7 year old would have flipped.

Evicted Corpes

I always get a kick when I hear news like this. (Click here) I guess in MADRID Spain cemeteries are evicting the dead for not paying their bill. I guess in Spain there are many places that don’t allow you to buy plots but lease them instead. Which is insane. I don’t know how that works, but it sounds costly for the living to pay for all their dead loved ones. Could you imagine not paying for Aunt Sue’s crypt lease, and then finding out they are sending her in a cab to live with you because you didn’t pay. Holly cow! I am surprised that there isn’t some guy out there buying up all these evicted corpses and selling them to haunts or home haunters. Now you have yourself a real corpse for cheap. Set me up.. "Holly cow Mark that is your best work. It really looks like a coprse. Me: That is because it is!" Remember in the movie Poltergeist they had real corpses in the swimming pool because it was cheaper than making them. Makes you want to call and ask, right? “Yes, sir can you please send me the assortment pack of real evicted corpses please. I am in the Chicago area. No, I will hold.”

Buying new marionette FCG

Decided I was going to go back to Fright Theatre and ask if they could make me a FCG for the crypt that I plan on making for next season. Was having trouble getting a hold of Steve but I finally got a hold of him yesterday. He was telling me he made one before for Mike Fox of http://nightfrights.net/. I am currently trying to get a picture from Mike to see what it looked like. Hopefully he responds. I told Steve it won’t be until about April until I am ready for him, so he is going to research on blacklight powder. Never knew there was such an animal. I know of the paint, but never powder. And to help out my good buddies from Hauntcast.net I told Steve I saw his add on Chris's site. Always here to help a brother out.

I am planning on building a crypt for this year but I think I will wait on the plans until I find out what the puppet will look like or if I need to do anything to him. But I would love to make a rotating crypt. I think that would be cool. But I know it takes a while to make one without all the bells and whistles so I am not sure where I want to go with this as of yet.

Update: Also wanted to mention that I finally found someone who was messing around with the car antenna that I want to use. He never completed his project using the antenna motor but at least I now know what it looks like. I have messed with car antennas before, so they are easy to get to work. Not sure what current it uses but I can play around with that. Found his thread on Halloweenforum. He was trying to figure out a way to get the relay to work with the antenna but I don't think I need worry about that. I will need a relay but I won't need that type. The Chicago Haunt Builders group is also thinking about doing this prop build in the next meeting so I will have to hope they do it so I can join in. Here is the picture of the antenna.

Haunt on the Hill Retired

I was reading the blog of Rachael from Haunt On the Hill the other day, and it looks like she has decided to retire from haunting. That is pretty sad. I first heard of Rachael from her video that she made for school, I think. In the video she interviews the Orbachs, who are also haunters. Her goal is interview them and then out do then. I think my favorite quote from the video is when she is talking about that "Halloween isn't about competition, it's about scaring the shit out of little children."

I certainly will miss her blog and all the video that she posted. I only hope one day she decides to come back. Here is the blog link which she tells people about her decision.

The registration is open for Tranworld in St. Louis today. And yes, it is official 50 bucks a person gets you in. Trying to find out how hard it is to get in. I might have to ask a couple people for help this time. It seems a bit harder.

Update: Got an email from Transworld's Donna today.(Maybe Donna the dead you think?) She told me that she was able to check out my credentials by my websites. Which is good. I think.. Just asked her if my registration is completed or not, and if they are going to send me payment information. I will find out later I guess.

Update to the Update of the Update. Got my email from Transworld. I just got approved to go. I am so excited. Just need to get ready. I know, that isn't until March D.T. Oh, well, I can wait. or not...

2012 ideas

Like most I have so many ideas. I would like to make a crypt this year and would like to make my ghoulire prop as a pneumatic prop. I have been talking to a few members of the Chicago haunt builders club and I might get some help form them. Even with the frame if I need it. I hoping I don't need to go that far. Most people tell me I can get a compressor for 300 bucks or so. I would love to go this route and maybe add a few more props with the compressor in mind.

The picture of the ghost I have here is from King's Haunting. I have been talking to Kimberly King who made the faceless ghost. Was asking her how easy would it be to make it larger and she tells me it wouldn't be too much more problem. What I would like to do is have this ghost rise and fall using a car antenna. Not sure how big I can get it without it failing, but I guess it depends on the antenna itself. But I certainly think it can be done just not sure what the ghost can rise out of. I guess maybe a tombstone or cauldron. Not sure right now. Will have to play with the idea a bit.

Oh, and I am not forgetting my spider. He is half way done right now. Just need to get the front done. I should have that semi-finished during winter. I am going to whittle the foam pieces I have to make the front of the spider. Will certainly post pictures as I am going. I am feeling allot better from the surgery and I think I am ready to start building again.

Contract Killer Zombies

Do you have Android like me? Well, then you should try to this free game Contract Killer Zombies. It is actually pretty cool. I have only died 1000 times but it is still an awesome game. It is about a crack shot guy in a wheel chair who shoots zombies. His girlfriend runs around gathering stuff and he tries to keep the zombies off of her. I have been asking Sinister Shadows if they still have video and such from their Goliath project. Today they posted video of some of their tests of Goliath. Goliath is my favorite prop of all time. Transworld Rumor

I have been hearing rumors that Transworld is planning on charging 50 bucks a person. I really hope this is just a rumor. The rumor is that because of the popularity of the hit show Making Monsters that Transworld could get more people going that are not looking to buy but more to check out the stars of Making Monsters. This could really suck for the people who are really there for the props. That means if this would actually go thru that I will be paying 100 bucks to walk into the door.(For me and girlfriend) I am trying to verify this, but so far no luck.

I must say we only had 50 trick or Treaters this year. Not sure where all the kids went. But it was slow last year too. When Halloween was Sat we got way over 100 kids. This year not so much.

This is my girlfriend's little girl going as a witch. She forgot her hat from school so the girlfriend messed up her hair to make her look crazy.

Already planning for next year. Have been talking to some members of the chicago haunt builder club. They have been giving me tips on compressors. I so want to learn.

Well like every year I try to post the Google Icon that they post every year on halloween. This is what they have for 2011. Looks like a lot of pumpkins. Not as fancy as last year. When you click on it, it will search for anything "Happy Halloween." Oh, I noticed that they have a video of the people carving the pumpkins too. So I guess that is pretty cool.

Always wanted to know what it felt like to be paper Machie'd. Well, now I know. Decided to try to do the make up my mom did as a kid. Harder than I was expecting and my colors didn't come out good. But on this try I did my whole face. Like I said the colors were just not right. Will have to work on it.

My 2011 haunt Tour

Well, since I didn't really put out a lot this year I decided to check out some pros haunts. I was going to check out DragonLadysues haunt tonight but it was kind out of my way. And since I have been there before I thought I would try out two other haunts.

The first Haunt I went to is Haunt31 from Lake In the Hills, Il. It is about 32 miles away from me but well worth it. I took some video of his haunt but very dark. Noticed he has some Scare Factory stuff from Transworld. Here are some photos. Oh, his stie is www.haunt31.com.

I was planning on going tonight but tired from work. I am going to check out some local haunts. Maybe get a few ideas.God knows I need it. Planning on going to DragonLadySues house tomorrow, along with Haunt31. These are some of the more well known haunts in Illinois. I actually know DragonladySue and Haunt31. Went to Ironstock with them. I certainly will get some photos and such of my ventures.

When I was kid we didn't have a lot of money. My mom use to make our Halloween costumes. When I was in High School she use to make me into the wolf man by gluing fur to my face or making a gun wound to my face by using paper machie. Still lookng for that pic. But I do have some video to share on the costumes she made.

Wow! I am kind of stunned today. I was just reading an old blog from Shellhawk about when I complained about Hauntcast going Pay-per listen. I know, that was so last year and now they are free again so I should just get over it. I guess most think about me as a complainer. That is fine, maybe I am. But I certainly didn’t bash Hauntcast or any of its JDs. At the time I was a little perturbed about them going from free to pay per listen so quickly. But I certainly didn’t bash anyone on the show. There was a typo that I corrected on the blog. And certainly no one even commented on my blog except on Shellhawks blog. I didn't even know until today. (That is why I am trying to forgive since it was water under the bridge) And if you look at how many subscribes I have compared to them, who would have even think that someone would have read my blog. Who would even care what I think.

Anyway, I just want to make it clear that I have no hard feelings against Shellhawk. She has all the right in the world to defend Hauntcast. I just wish she had not brought all her minions in to bash me on her blog. I think that still bothers me to some degree. But like everything else, I will get over it. As I am reading some of the comments off her page, it just bothers me that now they are bashing not just my comments but now my props. I don’t think that was fair. And I know someone is going to complain about this blog but this is how I get over things. If you don't like my blog, I can only suggest don't read it.

Last night I sanded the spider butt down and then started to paint it. I will probably have to sand it in places and re-paint. As you can tell I didn't get it really smooth on the surface. So I am just playing by ear. So hoping to get this done before Halloween but not looking so good with the cold weather coming in. Wish me luck.

I went to Home Depot today to get more fiberglass resin. I also bought some black paint. Was testing the fiberglass to see if it takes the paint. Also hit it more with resin. Sanding is going to be a pain though. Lots of spots I missed.

Getting my Destini Beard CD Signed

Do you remember when I got the new Destini Beard CD last year? Probably not. But I was able to get a hold of her not too long ago and asked her if she could sign my cd album. Well, she told me just send it to me and she would sign it. She doesn't have any 8x10s right now, but she might send me one of those too when she gets them in. I will certainly post when I get it in. Rain that sucks!!!!

This weekend sucked. Was going to work on the spider's butt, BUT the rain stopped me cold. It is starting to look like the spider will have to wait until next year. That really sucks but I am starting to run out of time, money, and patients. I will see what happens.

But on an upside, I got my old website back www.deathtouchhorrors.com. I had that when I first started and I thought it would be good to save the money and just make a sub directory on Hauntseeker.com as www.deathtouch.hauntseeker.com. But now it has its own site again. Probably starting on Monday or whenever. I should have the domain working. My goal is to work on the site to make it a little more pretty this year. So I am going to update my flash software.

Oh I recorded this cool audio and am planning on adding it to my site. It just needs some messing around with. So this is what it sounds like.
